A Great Catch for Qian Hu's Web Management Team - Web Builder Case Study
Singtel myBusiness’ Web Builder helps Qian Hu Fish Farm easily manage all nine of their websites without any programming or coding expertise required.
Casting nets of success around the globe
From a pig farm before 1985 to a flourishing fish farm with a strong presence in both the local and global markets today, Qian Hu has certainly come a long way. Today, this homegrown fish farming corporation exports over 1,000 species of ornamental fish to more than 80 countries around the world, and accounts for 5% of the world market export of ornamental fish. The Group also exports aquarium and pet accessories to about 40 countries around the world, as well as host public attractions such as fish tours and a fish farm.
Reeling in a reliable and user-friendly solution
Prior to Web Builder, Qian Hu’s Executive Chairman and Managing Director Kenny Yap and Regional Admin Manager Susan Yap had worked with another Content Management Solution (CMS) vendor for over a year to run the various websites owned by the company. As they were not satisfied with the service rendered due to issues such as a complicated interface, as well as unstable hosting and bugs, they went looking for an alternative solution When Susan learnt about Singtel myBusiness’ Web Builder SaaS solution, she decided to give it a try – and since 1 August 2014 when the first of their nine websites was launched, the team has never looked back.
One of the key benefits of Web Builder is its ease of use. According to Chen Jia Wei, Account Manager at CommonTown – Singtel myBusiness’ partner for Web Builder, the solution enables Qian Hu’s web team to update their websites themselves anytime, reducing the waiting time and dependency on external vendors. Webpages can be created or updated simply as you would a word document, without the need for web programming knowledge. This was what impressed Susan most after being introduced to the solution. “A new staff would be able to pick up the necessary skills in just one or two sessions, “she explained.
Web Builder allows webmasters to manage multiple websites using the same user-friendly platform. This is especially useful for organisations like Qian Hu that have multiple websites.
The team’s ongoing relationship with Singtel also played an important role. “I like to work with Singtel because of a long history of relationship. Also, most of the people I work with are pretty familiar with Singtel,” Kenny added.
Working with Web Builder
With the help of CommonTown, Susan and her team took just seven months to implement all nine of Qian Hu’s websites. According to Susan, the migration from the previous system was a hassle-free process. “It was easy, as most of the migration was handled by CommonTown. We only had to provide the content, features we wanted and design,” she explained.
Since then, maintenance and updating of the websites have been a breeze. As project manager, Susan enlists the help of two staff to work on the websites – one is in charge of design while the other updates information. So far, the team is happy with everything Web Builder offers. Susan attributes that especially to the team’s expertise, as well as prompt support response from Singtel. For example, Susan recounted an incident where there was an image distortion on one of the websites. That, to the team’s relief, was rectified promptly after it was reported.
Would they recommend Web Builder, then? The question was met with a resounding yes. From her experience, Susan said the solution would be especially useful for small companies without IT departments. Kenny, too, was all for recommending it.
“How can we not?” he said with a laugh. “Of course! 1000%! 100% percent isn’t enough! I think it is a very efficient, friendly and reliable system which most SMEs should consider using.”
Hooked on Progression and Innovation
Moving on, Qian Hu is looking to becoming the world’s number one exporter in ornamental fish. Besides possibly incorporating e-commerce, Kenny and his team are set on continuing their journey towards progression and innovation by working on research & development (R&D) and new breakthroughs – and ultimately, create even more impact on the industry. Qian Hu also hopes to up their share of the world’s export of ornamental fish to 10% in the next few years. You can be sure that when these achievements fall into place, you’ll see it firsthand on the Qian Hu websites.
